UAE creates dedicated AI and data authority to ‘build government of the future’

The UAE government is establishing a new Artificial Intelligence and Data Authority to consolidate public data, AI capabilities, and digital government efforts.
The authority will merge three government bodies’ portfolios and lead the country’s focus on AI-powered digital transformation.
Omar Sultan Al Olama will head up the new authority, which aims to unify national priorities, propose policies, oversee national AI strategy, and deliver integrated digital government services.
The authority will standardize data and AI management practices, support the country’s national digital economy, enhance international partnerships, and strengthen cybersecurity efforts.
Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid stated the UAE’s ambition to develop a more efficient and proactive global government model that leverages data and AI to improve public services for future generations.
Along with the new authority, the UAE government launched an AI-generated spokesperson named Zayed for the International Affairs Office, emphasizing a commitment to innovative technologies.
The country is also promoting AI-powered family avatars within the Digital Dubai Authority to raise awareness and enhance the delivery of digital services in an engaging and relatable manner.
