Alnylam, Inceptive ink AI deal potentially worth $2B

Alnylam Pharmaceuticals has partnered with biotechnology company Inceptive Nucleics to utilize AI tools to expedite the discovery of new RNA-based therapies.
The initial partnership includes $30 million in cash and equity investments, with additional potential payments reaching up to $2 billion based on preclinical, regulatory, and commercial milestones.
The collaboration aims to support Alnylam’s “ambitious pipeline expansion” under its “Alnylam 2030” strategic plan, seeking to prioritize the most promising molecules and enhance experimental productivity.
Inceptive’s AI model is designed to learn biological patterns, potentially identifying optimal targets for Alnylam’s RNA interference technique aimed at disease-causing proteins.
The use of AI in drug development represents a shift from traditional trial-and-error methods, with proponents arguing that it holds the key to focusing on the most promising therapies.
Despite skepticism regarding the long-term efficacy of AI in drug development, many pharmaceutical companies, including Bristol Myers Squibb, Merck & Co., Novo Nordisk, Takeda, and Eli Lilly, are actively adopting AI-driven strategies to revolutionize their operations.
