Schuylerville Teachers and Students Explore the Possibilities of Artificial Intelligence

Schuylerville Central School District is exploring the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in the classroom to support rather than replace learning.
The district uses an AI platform called MagicSchool, which is compliant with Ed Law 2-D, offering age-appropriate prompts and resources for student learning.
In elementary school, 4th grade teacher Pete Carner utilizes Gemini, a Google AI chatbot, to help students generate ideas, outline content, and guide the creative process while emphasizing that students are responsible for refining and verifying their final work.
Middle school teachers are integrating various AI tools to enhance understanding and instruction. For example, Rebecca Nesbitt uses MagicSchool’s translation tool for vocabulary, while Kerri Brennan utilizes an AI idea generator in English classes to boost creative writing.
High school teachers like Anna Flores and Tom Robinson incorporate AI into writing and science instruction to stimulate idea generation, provide feedback, and develop critical thinking skills.
Educational professionals participated in a Superintendent’s Conference Day to learn about leveraging AI tools to foster meaningful and effective learning experiences. District leadership emphasizes that AI should act as a catalyst for enhancing the thinking and creativity students bring to their education.
