- The Gur Hasidic dynasty has introduced sweeping regulations that ban its followers from using artificial intelligence (AI), describing it as “the evil inclination of our generation.”
- The new rules impose an absolute prohibition on any form of dialogue with AI systems, via phone, computer, or any other medium, including for professional or livelihood-related purposes.
- The regulations specifically ban the use of AI-based computerized customer service.
- AI tools that generate outputs without the possibility of open-ended interaction, such as image creation, are permitted under strict supervision and approval by the “Gur Bishlemut” center.
- The rabbis emphasize that AI poses a more severe spiritual danger than the internet and warn of the addiction and shallow engagement some people have found with AI.
- The decree was signed by Gur rabbis from communities across Israel and also rabbis from London and the United States.
