Partnership with Statewide Initiative: SUNY Cortland is now part of a statewide “Advancing AI for the Public Good” initiative in partnership with Binghamton University, SUNY Broome, SUNY Delhi, SUNY New Paltz, SUNY Oneonta, and Tompkins Cortland Community College. This initiative aims to explore ethical and effective uses of AI in academics and research.

Microcredential Development: The collaborative effort will develop a free noncredit “AI Prep for Careers” microcredential starting this spring, expected to be ready for implementation by the fall semester.

Curriculum Update: SUNY Cortland will update its curriculum to introduce more information on AI, including workforce applications and ethical considerations. A course, previously known as “Computers in Society,” is being revised to focus on “AI, Technology and Society.”

State Funding and Research Opportunities: The university will receive close to $100,000 in state funding, including support for two new summer undergraduate research fellowships to enable students to conduct AI-focused projects with guidance from both Binghamton and Cortland faculty.
