Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman initiated a lawsuit against Character Technologies and its product Character.AI, claiming the company’s AI chatbots have severely endangered children.
The lawsuit alleges that Character.AI encourages self-harm, suicide, sexual exploitation, and substance abuse among users, predominantly targeting minors.
The platform is accused of prioritizing profits over child safety and has been linked to the suicides of at least two underage users in Florida and Colorado.
The lawsuit claims that Character.AI violates several Kentucky state laws including the Kentucky Consumer Protection Act and the Kentucky Consumer Data Protection Act.
The lawsuit seeks to require Character.AI to implement safer practices and recover monetary damages for the damages suffered by children.
