\n Artificial intelligence communications company Infinitus launched Thursday a risk detection system to ensure AI agents triage patients correctly, regardless of an interaction\u2019s stated intent.<\/p>\n

The solution\u2014dubbed Clinical Escalations\u2014continuously assesses risk during interactions, which allows organizations to reclassify events as emergent clinical situations if necessary. Clinical Escalations uses the industry-standard Schmidt Thompson Call Prioritization Index (CPI) framework and assigns a severity score for each interaction.<\/p>\n

Infinitus CEO and co-founder Ankit Jain told Fierce Healthcare in an emailed statement many patients are unable to identify when \u201ctheir symptoms have crossed into urgent territory,\u201d and recordings cannot ask follow-up questions.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe risk is under-triage, which is when a patient is assigned a lower level of urgency than their condition actually warrants,\u201d Jain said. \u201cThat’s the problem we built Clinical Escalations to solve.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company began to invest in the new capability as soon as its AI agents began interacting with patients, according to Jain. \u201cIn order to safely automate patient-facing conversations, recognizing and appropriately escalating emergencies is an essential requirement,\u201d Jain said.<\/p>\n

Jain said the solution is \u201cuniquely trained to monitor real-world patient conversations with a particular emphasis\u201d on high-acuity cases.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is tested across the full range of how patients naturally communicate, taking into account variations in literacy, emotional state, verbosity, and clarity, regardless of how a patient describes their situation,\u201d Jain said. \u201cEvery exchange is scored in real time and logged for human review, giving clinical teams a record of every escalation decision the system makes.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

One of the organizations piloting the tool is Accompany Health, a comprehensive at-home care provider.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Azalea Kim, M.D., Accompany Health’s chief product officer and SVP of operations, told Fierce Healthcare in an emailed statement the organization works with the \u201cdual-eligible population,\u201d which often comprises patients \u201cwho are facing complex health challenges or social needs.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cOur care is 24\/7, and we need the technology that supports our care teams to be reliable, safe, and most importantly, human-centered,\u201d Kim said. \u201cThat\u2019s why we are pleased to be working with Infinitus to enhance our triage capabilities and meet our patients\u2019 needs as quickly as possible.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n

The newest capability follows the April launch of Infinitus Studio, what the company touts as the first healthcare-specific AI agent builder. And, in February, Infinitus launched a suite of AI tools geared at healthcare payers aiming to improve member engagement.<\/p>\n

Clinical Escalations is currently ready and available to all Infinitus customers, Jain said.<\/p>\n
