This work is funded by the National Institute on Aging (NIA) through the Artificial Intelligence and Technology Collaboratories for Aging Research (AITC) program which allocated $40 million for these efforts.<\/li>\n<li>The NIA funded three AITC centers at Johns Hopkins, Penn and UMass Amherst which collaborate on pilot studies and hold annual symposia to share results.<\/li>\n<li>Smart home technologies with sensors and motion detection are a focus to help monitor health indicators and detect falls and other issues sooner for proactive interventions. <\/li>\n<li>There is a misconception that seniors are resistant to technology, but the actual preference is for unobtrusive technologies that help maintain independence rather than appear medical. Simple tools to assist with daily tasks are welcomed.<\/li>\n<li>The technology development process includes input from older adults to ensure solutions are designed for the user.
