TWIN FALLS, Idaho (KMVT\/Gray Media) \u2014 The College of Southern Idaho is investigating if the school is part of a nationwide cybersecurity incident involving Canvas.Canvas is \u201cthe learning management system used at CSI,\u201d according to an email from CSI\u2019s Chief Information Officer Ryan Jund sent to students and employees on Thursday. \u201cCanvas is developed and hosted by Instructure.\u201dA ransomware group has claimed to have breached the system, possibly exposing millions of personal information of students, teachers and staff across the country.Instructure posted on May 1 about a cybersecurity incident that had been reported and was under investigation.The next day, Instructure\u2019s Chief Information Security Officer Steve Proud wrote that the information involved in the attack included names, student ID numbers, messages between users and email addresses.\u201cAt this time, we have found no evidence that passwords, dates of birth, government identifiers, or financial information were involved. If that changes, we will notify any impacted institutions,\u201d Proud wrote.\u201cCSI is actively monitoring the situation and reviewing information as it becomes available,\u201d Jund\u2019s email stated. \u201cAs of today, we have not yet received formal confirmation from Instructure that CSI\u2019s Canvas instances were impacted.\u201dThe breach comes during a time when many college and public school systems are preparing for final exams.
