\n\tCounties continue to face an evolving landscape of cybersecurity threats, with local government systems increasingly targeted for disruption. As counties work to protect critical infrastructure and sensitive public data, workforce development remains a key component of a strong cybersecurity posture.
\nBCR Cyber has announced the launch of its next Cybersecurity Operational Methods and Education Training (COMET) cohort, beginning May 18 and running through June 23. Funded through the Maryland Department of Labor\u2019s Employment Advancement Right Now (EARN) program, this initiative offers free cybersecurity training for Maryland state and local government employees.
\nThe COMET program is designed to build real-world cybersecurity capabilities through hands-on instruction and simulation. Participants will gain experience in areas such as:<\/p>\n

Security operations fundamentals
\nCyber range simulations replicating real-world threats
\nArtificial intelligence applications in cybersecurity
\nGovernance, risk, and compliance principles<\/p>\n

The program offers two training tracks tailored to varying levels of experience:
\nIncumbent Training:A five-week program focused on building core cybersecurity knowledge, including IT fundamentals, security operations, and introductory AI concepts. This track is ideal for employees with at least one year of IT or cybersecurity experience.
\nAdvanced Incumbent Training:A more intensive five-week program centered on Governance, Risk, and Compliance, along with a cyber range practicum. Participants who complete this track will earn a certification validating readiness for GRC-related roles within government.
\nBoth tracks are delivered through live, remote instruction during weekday business hours, making participation accessible for working professionals with supervisor approval. The program is fully funded, reducing financial barriers for participation and allowing participants to enhance their cybersecurity readiness without additional strain on local budgets.
