Key focus areas for future joint initiatives include<br \/>\n                     artificial intelligence, aerospace and space operations, hypersonics, cyber and cybersecurity<br \/>\n                     and the development of next-generation unmanned aerial and ground systems. These tools are designed to help AI systems distinguish<br \/>\n                     between valid targets and protected entities, while also providing measurable confidence<br \/>\n                     in those decisions.<\/p>\n<p>                  Rather than relying solely on data and probability, USF researchers are applying formal<br \/>\n                     methods \u2013 rigorous mathematical techniques \u2013 to establish clear boundaries around<br \/>\n                     how AI systems operate.<\/p>\n<p>                  \u201cOur work focuses on providing formal guarantees \u2013 mathematically proving how these<br \/>\n                     systems will behave under different conditions,\u201d said Anshuman Chhabra, assistant<br \/>\n                     professor of computer science and engineering. \u201cIt\u2019s about adding a layer of robustness<br \/>\n                     and accountability that goes beyond traditional AI development.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                  Simulating the unknown<\/p>\n<p>                  Because real-world defense scenarios are difficult \u2013 and often impossible to replicate<br \/>\n                     at scale, By Light generates large volumes of synthetic data through advanced simulations.<br \/>\n                     These simulations model a wide range of environments, from varied weather conditions<br \/>\n                     to disrupted communications systems.<\/p>\n<p>                  USF researchers then analyze this data to ensure the underlying models are sound and<br \/>\n                     that the AI systems trained on it perform reliably across scenarios.<\/p>\n<p>                  \u201cSince real-world data is limited, simulation plays a critical role,\u201d said Seungbae<br \/>\n                     Kim, assistant professor in the Bellini College. \u201cOur goal is to ensure that synthetic<br \/>\n                     data leads to reliable performance in real-world environments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>                  Another area of collaboration focuses on autonomous systems operating in GPS-denied<br \/>\n                     environments \u2013 situations where navigation signals are unavailable or disrupted.
