The competition tests a wide range of cybersecurity skills, including cryptography, log analysis, digital forensics, intelligence\u00a0gathering\u00a0and password cracking.\u00a0With the fall competition complete, Cedarville students\u00a0are preparing\u00a0to apply those skills again as they look ahead to\u00a0the NCL\u2019s spring competition on April 10-12 and\u00a024-26,\u00a02026.\u00a09,000+ Students Compete in National Cyber League Fall Season\u00a0The team\u2019s\u00a0level of success did not come easily. More than 9,000 students from 549 colleges and universities\u00a0participated. More than 80 Cedarville students across four majors competed. Only\u00a017\u00a0students nationwide earned perfect scores, including two from Cedarville: Jaden Butler, a junior from Liverpool, New York, and Alex Taylor, a\u00a0senior\u00a0from Waukesha, Wisconsin. Both students are\u00a0double-majoring\u00a0in\u00a0computer science\u00a0and\u00a0cyber operations.\u00a0Cedarville Earns Highest National NCL Finish in Program History\u00a0Nick Parry, assistant professor of cyber operations and faculty coach for the university team, said the finish was the highest national placement in the university\u2019s history. Combined with the\u00a0program\u2019s accreditation by\u00a0the\u00a0Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology\u00a0(ABET)\u00a0and its designation as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense\u00a0(CAE-CD)\u00a0and Cyber Operations\u00a0(CAE-DO), Cedarville\u2019s cyber operations students are at the forefront of cybersecurity education.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cOnly 21 schools in the entire nation hold the\u00a0designation of\u00a0National Center of Academic Excellence\u00a0in\u00a0Cyber Operations, and Cedarville is one of them,\u201d said Parry. \u201cWhen you pair that with a top three finish in the National Cyber League, it shows that God is blessing a program that is both rigorous and\u00a0competitive.\u201d\u00a0\u201cOnly 21 schools in the entire nation hold the\u00a0designation of\u00a0National Center of Academic Excellence\u00a0in\u00a0Cyber Operations, and Cedarville is one of them.\u201dCyber Operations Program Builds Technical and Leadership Skills\u00a0Parry explained that Cedarville\u2019s cyber operations program is intended to prepare students to succeed beyond technical performance. \u201cOur goal isn\u2019t just to teach technical content; it\u2019s to shape communicators, teammates and leaders,\u201d he said. \u201cThe way we structure classes, labs and competitions is meant to develop those soft skills employers demand right alongside deep technical expertise.\u201d\u00a0Cedarville Student Says NCL Prepared Him for Internships\u00a0For students, that preparation extends well beyond competition day. Nathan Berlie, a junior\u00a0from Eau Claire, Wisconsin,\u00a0studying computer science and cyber operations, found that his academic experience prepared him not just to\u00a0participate\u00a0in the NCL competition but also to succeed in professional work environments. \u201cIn internships, I\u2019ve worked alongside graduate students from other schools without feeling behind,\u201d said Berlie. \u201cThe NCL competition reinforced that Cedarville is preparing us really well \u2014 we\u2019re able to step into high-level environments and\u00a0excel in them.\u201d\u00a0As cybersecurity threats continue to evolve globally, the demand for graduates who can think critically, collaborate\u00a0effectively\u00a0and respond under pressure continues to grow.
