Patrick Morrisey has signed a series of bills passed during the 2026 legislative session that his office says are designed to expand workforce opportunities, strengthen public safety and improve the efficiency of state government.\u201cThese are commonsense measures focused on opportunity, safety, and making government work better for the people of West Virginia,\u201d Morrisey said in a statement.Among the measures is SB 402, the Workforce Readiness and Opportunity Act, which creates a strategic micro-credentialing program. The measure is intended to reduce barriers and give patients and doctors more flexibility in pursuing treatment options.On public safety and religious liberty, Morrisey approved SB 1026, which increases penalties for disrupting religious services while preserving First Amendment protections for lawful protest, his office said.He also signed HB 5638, which consolidates oversight of state cybersecurity efforts and establishes standards aimed at protecting sensitive information and modernizing state systems.\u201cThese bills reflect our commitment to preparing West Virginia for the challenges ahead while staying focused on the needs of our people today,\u201d Morrisey said.Other bills signed include:HB 5364, which eliminates 25 state boards and commissions deemed redundant or inactive.HB 4425, which restores the West Virginia Secondary School Activities Commission\u2019s authority to oversee student-athlete transfers.HB 4106, which extends constitutional carry rights to 18- to 20-year-olds.HB 5430, the\u00a0Pharmaceutical Benefits Act, which increases oversight of prescription drug spending in state programs.HB 4395, which requires investigations involving alleged endangerment of a student by school personnel to continue even if the employee leaves the job.Morrisey said the legislation is intended to \u201cmove West Virginia forward\u201d by creating job opportunities and strengthening protections for communities.See an error in our reporting?
