\n Ibadan: An Ibadan-based legal practitioner, Mr Olakunle Akintola, has stressed the need to regularly update Nigeria\u2019s data protection and cybersecurity laws to tackle emerging technological threats.

\n\u201cNigeria\u2019s regulatory framework has improved, from the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation 2019 to the Cybercrimes Act 2015 and the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023.
\n\u201cHowever, there is a need for continuous improvement to address emerging issues,\u201d he said.
\nAkintola also said that the amendment of the Nigeria Police Act marked a shift towards a service-oriented and rights-based policing system.
\nAccording to him, the amendment showed a move from a force-driven approach to one centred on human rights.
\nHe noted that it aimed to create a more accountable, professional and rights-compliant police service, promoting democratic policing.
