How concerned Vlad should American CEOs be now about Iranian cyber retaliation? In your opinion, how real and material is that risk? 00:20 Vlad I think it’s actually gotten to the top of the list when folks that we talk to on a regular basis. And the primary driver of this is that, you know, most of the time we end up relatively defensive in our positions, right? We don’t pay attention. Uh we take a look at, you know, our general perimeters uh within the software application, especially when we’re dealing with the software side. and we’re looking at our networks, we’re looking at our application traffic, uh our identity on those parts of it. and we wait until almost something shows up and hits us before we start reacting towards it. And that’s a natural state because the 00:54 Vlad Iranians, the North Koreans, the Chinese will end up using a lot of agents. They’ll end up using a lot of AI and they’ll blast it directly at the companies. they need to turn around and be able to find some way to protect themselves and don’t sometimes don’t see it coming as quickly as it does. 01:08 Speaker A Jamie Diamond told CNBC today he expects cyber attacks as retaliation. If those attacks came from Iran, Vlad, what what kind of form do you think they would take? Would it be would it be American companies they’d go after? Could it be infrastructure, power grids, would it be all of the above? 01:27 Vlad I think there’s three layers or kind of three levels that we think about. So the first one is usually in the defense side directly, right? You can see them actually even trying to attack some of the drones that we have. And I believe the US and Israeli forces were able to hack and turn around some of the drones on the Iranian side and send them back to where they’re from. I think the second layer of that goes into uh the infrastructure layer in the United States, right? So those are energy companies, utility companies, airport, um transportation businesses. The type of things that frankly for you and I are going to be 01:58 Vlad not pleasant. This is not something we want to see. We want to see that we get home, we’re able to turn on our faucet and the water’s pouring out. And I think the third layer of that is just then gen general kind of uh corporations and other organizations in and around. The challenge with the Iranians is that there is state sponsored hackers, but then there’s a set of what they call hacktivists around that will act on their behalf that are not necessarily sponsored by them. And so and those folks because of the some of the depletion inside the 02:30 Vlad leadership are now kind of off on their own doing whatever they they think is best. Right? So you’ll see those you’ll see those attacks coming from places maybe you didn’t expect into areas that we didn’t expect to get hit by. 02:40 Speaker A How does AI play into this, Vlad, in terms of impact on cybersecurity? What is the impact there both offensively and defensively? 02:49 Vlad Yeah, so on the offensive side, instead of you trying to attack, you know, um one system with a handful of machines at once, you could go ahead and uh and put together hundreds, thousands and what you call agents today, right? Ones that you give them instructions and go and and attack another website. And the challenge with that is is that if you’re a company trying to protect yourself on the defensive side, all of a sudden this offense that’s coming at you is coming at you from a lot of different angles and they’ll find that one little 03:22 Vlad hole somewhere in your infrastructure, somewhere in your application that’s open and get in and start to expose it. 03:28 Speaker A So if I’m an American CEO Vlad, I’m listening to this. I’m running a company either large or small. What are my best practices here? What am I what are my best moves to make? 03:37 Vlad Yeah, so I think you start off with um probably the things that could potentially be super exposed right now on the code side. Uh code security is super important, given that all of us are using a lot more AI uh within our code bases today. Um it allows for creation a lot more code, but also allows for a lot more leaks. Um you got to make sure your applications protected, your network is protected and then the one layer below that that’s probably the most crucial is identity within a company, right? You as an end uh employee of uh of Yahoo wherever you’re working, 04:09 Vlad probably have logins to 30, 40 different applications internally. 04:12 Speaker A What are some of the most common mistakes Vlad you see American CEOs make when it comes to cyber security? 04:18 Vlad I’d probably go back on the identity side at a minimum and I think the under investment. The challenge that most folks have, it’s kind of like insurance. You don’t want to pay for it and then the second you need it, all of a sudden now you want it, you want it back in place, right? You want to you want to make sure you’re protected. Uh over the last probably decade, uh security spending at companies has gone from, you know, 50 bips of uh 0.50% of revenue to now closer to like 1 and a half% of revenue. 04:52 Speaker A Finally, Vlad, I got to get your take. Listen, you’re a serial entrepreneur, you know tech, you know software. What do you make of these AI disruption fears that have rocked the software sector? Do you look at that and say, hey, all right, that’s a fair balance response. I don’t know where the tech’s headed. Do you think it’s overblown? Where do you come down? 05:13 Vlad Uh, I’m a pretty big big optimist on this. So I will tell you, I think the productivity growth that’s going to enable us uh within companies is going to skyrocket. You know, I’ll give you one anecdote. A year ago, about 5% of the code that was written in in in Fencer’s uh product was written with AI. Today, that’s north of 60% with the engineers that we have, right? So they’re able to put together more products, create more features, create a wider set of capabilities, and we can deliver that at the same 05:43 Vlad or effectively lower cost than before to the to the to our customers and to consumers. And I think in general, you and I will benefit out of this across the board. It’ll become deflationary and a lot of us will get things that we didn’t expect before.
