However, the interconnectedness of these systems can make them vulnerable, exposing both citizens and organisations to significant cybersecurity risks.

The TELEMETRY project addresses this growing challenge by delivering a framework for continuous monitoring, vulnerability detection and risk analysis across IoT ecosystems. Since its launch in 2023, the project has focused on developing trustworthy tools, techniques and holistic methodologies for testing and detecting vulnerabilities in IoT systems at both component and system level.
Tools for real-world systems

TELEMETRY has so far made substantial technological progress, developing 19 innovative tools that cover testing, runtime monitoring, anomaly detection, risk modelling, security controls and framework infrastructure. These tools are already being validated in three real-world IoT environments – aviation, smart manufacturing and telecommunication infrastructures – with different project partners, confirming their relevance and practical application.

Technology is not the only sphere in which the project has advanced. TELEMETRY partners have also published and presented their work in reputable journals and conferences across Europe and beyond, contributing to the global cybersecurity research community. “A notable milestone was the organisation of the LIFESEC workshop at IEEE SMARTCOMP, which brought together experts to discuss whole-life-cycle cybersecurity for smart and connected systems and positioned TELEMETRY as a key contributor to forward-looking research discussions,” reports Robert Seidl of Nokia Bell Labs. The second edition(opens in new window) of the LIFESEC workshop, to be held in June 2026, has been accepted by the IEEE SMARTCOMP organisers.

The project has also strengthened its presence within key European cybersecurity ecosystems. Its partners are not only active in major clusters such as the European Cyber Security Organisation (ECSO), they also participate in working groups such as ECSO’s Working Group 6 on Technologies & Innovation and Defence & Space. There is also close collaboration with sister initiatives to accelerate progress in next-generation cybersecurity validation and assurance for IoT systems.
Looking to the future

TELEMETRY will continue integrating and refining the developed tools across aviation, smart manufacturing and telecommunication networks. It will also raise awareness of its achievements through targeted communication and dissemination activities such as workshops and podcasts, and deepen collaboration with sister projects and the clusters it is part of.

According to Seidl, a key priority will be the project’s active involvement in major European initiatives such as ECSO, the European Union Agency for Cybersecurity and the industry-driven private Big Data Value Association. Through this participation, it will be able to contribute to policy discussions and support the development of future EU cybersecurity strategies.

By the project’s end in August 2026, TELEMETRY (Trustworthy mEthodologies, open knowLedgE & autoMated tools for sEcurity Testing of IoT software,  haRdware & ecosYstems) will have delivered a set of open source, trustworthy tools that support advanced cybersecurity testing and vulnerability detection for complex IoT ecosystems, helping to strengthen Europe’s cyber resilience. “Its open, collaborative approach will ensure that the project’s results remain accessible, reusable and impactful long after its completion,” Seidl concludes.

If you are interested in having your EU-funded project featured as a ‘Project of the Month’, please send us an email to editorial@cordis.europa.eu and tell us why!

Stronger cybersecurity in an interconnected world | News | CORDIS https://cordis.europa.eu/article/id/463168-stronger-cybersecurity-in-an-interconnected-world Publish Date: 2026-02-02 03:00:00…

[15
24,27
post-185454","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-cybersecurity","tag-cybersecurity","tag-vulnerability
