\nCedarville University students are hoping to help the cause through the launch of a cybersecurity camp called CedarBits.<\/p>\n

The four-week camp starts in February for middle school students in grades six through eight where they will learn\u00a0computer safety, digital security\u00a0fundamentals\u00a0and basic networking skills.
\nCamp dates are:<\/p>\n

Feb. 3: 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
\nFeb. 10: 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
\nFeb 17: 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
\nFeb. 24: 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.<\/p>\n

CedarBits will take place\u00a0in the\u00a0Center for the Advancement of Cybersecurity\u00a0in the Scharnberg Business and Communication Center.
\nThe program was started by\u00a0Cyber Leader Development Program\u00a0students and will be run by Aaron Luke,\u00a0a\u00a0junior\u00a0cyber operations\u00a0major\u00a0from\u00a0Kearney, Nebraska;\u00a0Mikhail\u00a0\u201cMisha\u201d\u00a0Semenov, a\u00a0junior\u00a0cyber operations major\u00a0from Franklin, Ohio,\u00a0and Nicholas Sheldon, a\u00a0junior\u00a0double-major in cyber operations and\u00a0computer science\u00a0from Fairfield, Ohio.\u00a0
\n\u201cWe want to give middle schoolers a fun, hands-on introduction\u00a0to cybersecurity \u2014 showing them how computers talk to each other, how \u2018bad guys\u2019 get in and how they can keep their families\u2019 devices safe,\u201d said Semenov. \u201cEven if they only remember a few core ideas, they\u2019ll walk away with a better understanding of the digital world around them.\u201d\u00a0
\nThe camp will focus on computer and internet safety, but will also introduce students to career paths in\u00a0computer science, cyber\u00a0operations\u00a0and information technology management
\n\u201cMiddle school students are at the age where they\u2019re starting to think about the adult world and where they may fit into it,\u201d said Seth Hamman, director of Cedarville\u2019s Center for the Advancement of Cybersecurity,. \u201cTheir curiosity gives them the chance to explore their gifts and discover new interests.
