\nThe proposal rightly\u00a0seeks\u00a0to make cybersecurity certification a more practical tool for companies, including by allowing certificates to serve as a presumption of conformity with EU law and by accelerating the development of certification schemes. If implemented correctly, this approach can reduce duplication, streamline\u00a0compliance\u00a0and support\u00a0a stronger\u00a0single market.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018Europe needs\u00a0simple\u00a0cybersecurity rules that work in practice. Making certification a facilitator of compliance \u2013 rather than an\u00a0additional\u00a0layer\u00a0\u2013 is the right direction, but we should not\u00a0miss out on\u00a0the fact that we still need to harmonise timelines and\u00a0governance between CRA, NIS2, GDPR and sectorial rules\u00a0too.\u00a0The\u00a0schemes\u00a0must\u00a0remain voluntary\u00a0and aligned with international standards\u00a0and\u00a0offer\u00a0mutual recognition with\u00a0likeminded\u00a0allies,\u2019 said Cecilia Bonefeld-Dahl, Director-General of DIGITALEUROPE.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\nAs the EU cybersecurity rulebook continues to expand, it is essential to preserve a careful balance between security\u00a0objectives, available cybersecurity\u00a0resources\u00a0and Europe\u2019s economic competitiveness. Industry is already navigating overlapping cyber obligations under NIS2, the Cyber Resilience Act and sectoral rules. Any new supply chain security measures must therefore be proportionate, justified by clear risk assessments and designed to\u00a0align with\u00a0existing frameworks.\u00a0
\nSimplification must deliver real relief for companies\u00a0
\nDIGITALEUROPE welcomes the Commission\u2019s stated intention to streamline incident reporting and improve coherence between the Cybersecurity Act, NIS2 and the digital omnibus. For this effort to succeed, simplification must go beyond administrative adjustments and result in fewer reporting channels, as well as\u00a0aligned thresholds and timelines across EU legislation.\u00a0
\nThe proposed evolution of ENISA\u2019s role can also add value, keeping the Agency focused on certification development, technical\u00a0consistency\u00a0and international cooperation,\u00a0provided it\u00a0is matched with adequate\u00a0resources. Any new operational coordination tasks should support\u00a0the work of national authorities and existing EU crisis mechanisms.\u00a0
