General Dynamics Information Technology will upgrade the networks at 187 Air Force bases with a zero trust-based capability, the company announced Wednesday.<\/p>\n

Under the service\u2019s Next Generation Gateway program, GDIT has received a $120 million task order to provide \u201can integrated, data-centric cybersecurity solution\u201d to support over one million users, according to a company news release. The effort is a major IT modernization initiative designed to replace the service\u2019s outdated network infrastructure with modern architectures based on zero trust.<\/p>\n

The contract to GDIT was awarded by the Air Force Lifecycle Management Center and is intended to enable the Department of the Air Force to meet the Pentagon\u2019s broader goal to shift to zero-trust cybersecurity practices across the enterprise.<\/p>\n

Zero trust is a cybersecurity concept that assumes IT networks and systems have been penetrated by adversaries, thus requiring the Pentagon to continuously monitor and authenticate users and their devices as they move through the network.<\/p>\n

As outlined in the department\u2019s 2022 Zero Trust Strategy, all Defense Department components are required to achieve \u201ctarget levels\u201d of zero trust by fiscal 2027 and \u201cadvanced levels\u201d by fiscal 2032.<\/p>\n

To upgrade the Air Force\u2019s bases, GDIT will integrate its Everest Zero Trust Digital Accelerator at 187 facilities located across the world and secure data located across all levels of classification, according to the company. The tool comprises a framework and solution sets for implementing a zero trust architecture \u2014 including data-centric security, artificial intelligence-enabled threat detection and constant device and user management.<\/p>\n
