Let\u2019s cheer on our city teams in the Semifinals! (Huntsville City Schools)<\/p>\n

Last month, the state round of CyberPatriot 18 was held across the country, and two teams from Huntsville are advancing to the semifinals later this month.<\/p>\n

Keep reading to learn more about CyberPatriot and who made the cut this year.<\/p>\n

What is CyberPatriot?<\/p>\n

CyberPatriot is the National Youth Cyber Defense Competition, held annually by the Air & Space Forces Association. It aims to equip students at the middle and high school levels with the necessary skills to pursue a career in cybersecurity upon graduation through simulation, education + inspiration.<\/p>\n

Through round-based progression, teams in Cyberpatriot are eliminated based on simulated trials in which participants are tasked with handling the cybersecurity needs of a fictional business.<\/p>\n

This year, two Huntsville High teams and one Mountain Gap Middle School team swept the top awards, taking home multiple State Champion titles.<\/p>\n

The Huntsville teams absolutely crushed CyberPatriot this year, with 3 teams from the Rocket City earning a spot in the Semifinals later this month.<\/p>\n

Huntsville High School Open Division team members:<\/p>\n

Andrew Buchholz, senior<\/p>\n

Walker Williams, senior<\/p>\n

Zyaan Kahn, senior<\/p>\n

Austill Baker, senior<\/p>\n

Owen Brown, junior<\/p>\n

Sam McMillion, sophomore<\/p>\n

This team placed in the top 2% of 4,164 high school cybersecurity teams that entered the competition.<\/p>\n

Huntsville High School All-Service team members:<\/p>\n

Carson Mignano, senior<\/p>\n

Trip Mosby, senior<\/p>\n

Denson Chatfield, senior<\/p>\n

Lydia Gifford, junior<\/p>\n

Amir Lopez, junior<\/p>\n

This team is made up of HHS\u2019s Space Force JROTC unit and competed against all Alabama JROTC and Civil Air Patrol units<\/p>\n

Mountain Gap Middle School team members:<\/p>\n

Brayden Weimer<\/p>\n

Miles Crackel<\/p>\n

William Zupko<\/p>\n

Michael Estrict<\/p>\n

Brian Lipscomb<\/p>\n

This team competed against other middle schools, earning a spot in the semifinals later this month. Another Mountain Gap team placed fourth in the state as well.<\/p>\n

Upon performance in the semifinals, these teams have the opportunity to advance to the National Finals. Good luck to the Panthers and the Knights!<\/p>\n
