- Perimeter Medical Imaging AI, Inc. has received a contribution from the INOVAIT Pilot Fund to enhance the AI capabilities of its flagship product, Claire™, an AI-enabled imaging device for breast cancer surgery.
- Claire™ received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration earlier this year, becoming the first of its kind for intraoperative imaging during breast cancer surgeries.
- The project aims to advance AI-driven intraoperative imaging to reduce the need for follow-up surgeries, which occur in about 25% of cases undergoing breast-conserving surgery.
- It focuses on developing tools to minimize the manual work required to label data for AI model training, improving AI performance across different tissue types, creating a two-tiered AI architecture, and optimizing the system for operating room environments.
- The contributions will amount to nearly $148,000 from the INOVAIT Pilot Fund and $100,000 from a Mitacs Business Strategy Internship award for graduate student involvement in the project.
- The project is being conducted in partnership with the University of Toronto’s Edward S. Rogers Sr. Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
