Ministry touts benefits of its AI certification

Taiwan has seen an influx of over 21,000 applicants for its new “artificial intelligence (AI) application planner” certification since its introduction, illustrating the growing demand for practical AI skills in industries.
The government’s program, spearheaded by the Industrial Development Administration, certifies individuals who learn how to implement AI tools and basic programming to enhance business operations rather than focusing solely on advanced AI development.
As part of an initiative to transform Taiwan into an “AI island,” the government aims to increase AI adoption in the manufacturing sector from 6-7% to 50% by 2028.
Taiwan ranks 16th globally in the Observer Global AI Index but lags behind in AI talent and business environment compared to countries like Japan, South Korea, Singapore and China, highlighting a need to enhance its own application of AI technology.
To boost AI adoption, the ministry has created a team of AI consultants to assist 14,000 businesses over the next two years, offering subsidies for consulting and software purchases.
