Information and broadcasting affairs state minister Yaser Khan Chowdhury on Friday called for making cybersecurity and digital trust top national priorities to ensure that the country’s rapid digital transformation is secure, resilient, and sustainable.
He also urged the information technology industry, media organisations and other stakeholders to work together to build a robust national cybersecurity framework. The state minister made the call while inaugurating the Phoenix Summit 2026, organised by The Team Phoenix Group, at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in Dhaka.
Bangladesh is advancing rapidly towards a digital future, with technology playing an increasingly important role in daily life, financial services, media platforms, education and business, he said.
‘Alongside this transformation, cybersecurity and digital trust have emerged as national priorities,’ he said.
Warning of the growing risks posed by cyber threats, Yaser said that any disruption to the security of financial transactions or erosion of public confidence in digital services could undermine the country’s overall development.
He stressed the need for a coordinated national cyber resilience system and said all stakeholders must work together to ensure a secure and responsible digital transformation.
Emphasising the importance of transparency and public awareness, the state minister said that cybersecurity was not merely a technical or institutional issue but one that depended heavily on informed and responsible citizens.
‘If we fail to raise public awareness about cybercrime and misinformation, the benefits of digital transformation cannot be fully realised,’ he said.
BRAC Bank PLC managing director and chief executive officer Tareq Refat Ullah Khan attended the event as a special guest.
Shadowserver Foundation chief executive officer Piotr Kijewski presented the keynote paper at the inaugural session.
