  • The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is teaming up with the University of Toronto’s Temerty Centre for AI Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM) to provide a one-week AI summer program.
  • The program, titled “Health Care of the Future Summer Program: Introducing Artificial Intelligence to Tomorrow’s Health-care Practitioners and Coders,” will run from August 24–28, 2026, and will be held in person.
  • Thirty high school students in grades 10–12 show interest in healthcare, AI policy, or computer science are eligible to participate.
  • The program aims to deepen students’ curiosity and understanding of AI’s role in solving complex health-related problems and fostering local talent in AI and health care.
  • Besides theory, the program includes hands-on practice in developing AI models and group projects with presentations to faculty.
  • The curriculum covers fundamental AI concepts, ML in Python, ML model development, application of AI in health care, ethical implications and potential career paths.
  • Participants will receive a certificate of completion, with applications closing August 12 on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Coding experience is not necessary for enrollment.
