UPEI to host 2026 summer program for high school students about AI in health care

The University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI) is teaming up with the University of Toronto’s Temerty Centre for AI Research and Education in Medicine (T-CAIREM) to provide a one-week AI summer program.
The program, titled “Health Care of the Future Summer Program: Introducing Artificial Intelligence to Tomorrow’s Health-care Practitioners and Coders,” will run from August 24–28, 2026, and will be held in person.
Thirty high school students in grades 10–12 show interest in healthcare, AI policy, or computer science are eligible to participate.
The program aims to deepen students’ curiosity and understanding of AI’s role in solving complex health-related problems and fostering local talent in AI and health care.
Besides theory, the program includes hands-on practice in developing AI models and group projects with presentations to faculty.
The curriculum covers fundamental AI concepts, ML in Python, ML model development, application of AI in health care, ethical implications and potential career paths.
Participants will receive a certificate of completion, with applications closing August 12 on a first-come, first-served basis.
Coding experience is not necessary for enrollment.
