Amazon’s AI Chief Peter DeSantis Sees Quantum Computer Launch In Five-Seven Years: Report

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has unveiled a clear timeline to deploy its first error-corrected, fault-tolerant quantum computer in the cloud by 2028, through its expanded collaboration with QuEra Computing.
According to Amazon AI executive Peter DeSantis, commercially practical, error-corrected quantum computers are expected within five to seven years. This technology is projected to follow a trajectory similar to Moore’s Law, expanding its capabilities annually.
The development of practical quantum computers marks an increasingly competitive race among major tech companies such as Amazon, Microsoft, Google, and IBM, to transition quantum computing from academic research to commercial use.
Amazon’s quantum computing strategy involves both in-house hardware research and cloud platform partnerships using neutral-atom technologies, contrasting with IBM and Google’s focus on superconducting circuits which require extreme cryogenic temperatures.
Quantum computing is anticipated to solve complex problems in advanced chemistry, molecular simulation, and optimization logistics once commercial systems are available in cloud data centers.
