Professor Jennifer Marie DeMeyer brings a combination of real-world investigative experience, digital forensics expertise and academic leadership to the field of cybersecurity education, Jodey Altier, president of Perry & Associates CPA’s A.C. and managing partner of Perry Forensic, said.
Born in Missouri and raised in a military family, DeMeyer completed high school at Osbourn Park High School where she was an active student-athlete, playing basketball and earning recognition for her performance on and off the court.
She continued her academic and athletic career at University of Charleston where she played basketball while completing two bachelor’s degrees, a bachelor of arts in visual art and a bachelor of science in public policy. The academic background laid the foundation for her ability to bridge technical cybersecurity knowledge with legal and policy-based perspectives, the company said.
Following her undergraduate education, DeMeyer served 17 years in the West Virginia State Police where she specialized in investigations of crimes against children and internet crimes against children. During her tenure, she became a digital forensic examiner, earning certifications and hands-on expertise using industry-leading tools such as Magnet AXIOM and Cellebrite technologies.
Her investigative career included complex federal-level prosecutions such as Timothy Sean Coogle v. United States and Kenneth Stier v. United States and significant regional cases involving sexual exploitation and abuse. Her work also extended to high-profile local investigations, including cases involving a Parkersburg YMCA swim coach and five juvenile female swimmers and an adult male in Wirt County who was charged with more than 50 felony sexual assault and abuse charges.
DeMeyer obtained her master’s of science in criminal justice and cybersecurity from Liberty University while a state trooper. She also served as a special deputy of the United States Marshals Service to assist the Federal Bureau of Investigation and United States Department of Homeland Security in investigations involving crimes against children.
She has completed more than 270 hours of training in child solicitation investigations and computer forensics. Her coursework focused on computer operations, computer networks, digital forensics and the criminal use of the internet and technology.
DeMeyer is the only full-time cybersecurity professor at Washington State where she leads and continues to develop the associate degree program in cybersecurity. Her teaching focuses on preparing students for careers in cybersecurity by blending technical instruction with investigative thinking, ethical responsibility, and hands-on application.
