The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) and the Urban Institute have launched the Commission on Artificial Intelligence and the American Workforce to assess artificial intelligence’s impact on jobs, skills, and earnings.
The 12-month commission will bring together 20 commissioners from diverse backgrounds including business, labor, academia, and government.
Major figures such as former Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, and experts Brent Orrell and Elisabeth Jacobs are leading the initiative.
The commission will focus on six research tracks to examine AI’s effect on specific occupations, wage levels, worker upskilling/reskilling, and suitable education/training.
The ultimate goal is to develop practical policy options and provide an evidence-based roadmap for adapting to and maximizing AI’s benefits for the American workforce.
Co-chairs Raimondo and Ryan emphasize the importance of proactive choices to ensure AI fosters opportunity and upward mobility.
The commission aims to release interim findings and a final report within the year, accompanied by public and private sessions with stakeholders.
The initiative officially kicks off with a virtual launch event on June 11.
