Dr. Heidi Beilis, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at WellSpan Health, showcased AI-identified anomalies in breast tissue, emphasizing the tool’s role in stroke, pulmonary embolisms, breast care, and chest x-rays.
AI software Aidoc, used by nearly 100 WellSpan physicians, can process information within two minutes, enhancing diagnostic precision.
Section Chief Beatrix Olofsson describes AI as a “second set of eyes,” highlighting areas that may indicate cancer and allowing radiologists to focus on problematic areas.
The AI has analyzed over 340,000 cases in the past 90 days, flagging 763 patients with acute findings needing immediate attention.
AI has contributed to significant health improvements, including diagnosing 4.7% more breast cancers in the last year, saving an additional 20,000 quality years of life, averting 1,500 deaths, and diagnosing 175 patients in curable stages.
Despite the AI’s benefits, Dr. Beilis emphasizes that physicians and healthcare teams are the ultimate decision-makers.
