AI Policy Presentation by Chief Information Officer: This week, the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council is set to hear a presentation on the local government’s AI policy, which includes acceptable and prohibited uses of AI and usage considerations from Chief Information Officer Liz Rodgers.
-
Review of Existing AI Policy: The current AI policy, last updated in October 2025, broadly applies to employees, interns, consultants, contractors, and third-party vendors, covering any AI usage involving LFUCG data and systems.
-
Acceptable Uses of AI: Some of the acceptable uses of AI outlined include drafting and content support, process and workflow efficiency, data analysis and research support, and employee training and enablement, provided they comply with certain accountability and transparency conditions.
-
Prohibited Uses of AI: The policy strictly prohibits several types of AI uses including use of unapproved AI tools, inputting or handling sensitive data, unsupervised autonomous actions, impersonation of LFUCG entities, creation of unsafe, misleading, or unsanctioned outputs, and bypassing internal policies or controls.
-
Usage Considerations: Several AI use cases are currently under review, such as AI-assisted review of planning documents, live language interpretation in voice calls, and AI agents assisting with resident requests.
-
Meeting Details: The presentation will be on the agenda for Council’s General Government and Planning Committee on June 2nd at 1 p.m. in the Council Chamber of Lexington’s Government Center. Attendance will be available both in-person and online via LexTV.
