Florida budget considers AI for SNAP eligibility

Florida is planning to invest $4 million in artificial intelligence to evaluate eligibility for food assistance.
The state budget includes a provision directing the Department of Children and Families to find a vendor that can use machine learning to analyze SNAP eligibility.
The aim of this investment is to minimize errors and reduce the state’s financial liability from these errors.
The chosen vendor will identify and correct incorrect eligibility determinations, pinpoint their causes, and provide recommendations for operational improvements.
The department must finalize the procurement process by September 1.
