Over the past 30 years, American public schools have undergone significant reform focused on standards, accountability, assessments, and investments linked to measurable outcomes.

Despite early successes, national progress has slowed in recent years. Most notably, reading and math achievement remain below pre-pandemic levels, attributed to rising mental health needs, chronic absenteeism, and widening opportunity gaps.
