Live Teaching 2026: Artificial Intelligence (AI) as Trigger, not Substitute

The Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport is implementing the “Live Teaching 2026” program to deliver standardized courses in real time, taught by leading educators to bridge the quality gap between urban and rural schools.
The initiative invites provincial departments to promote self-learning, the use of AI tools, and foreign language study, aligning with Cambodia’s transition to the digital economy.
The program offers students in remote areas access to the same educational resources as students in cities, focusing on New Generation Schools (NGS) standards and leveraging AI for enhanced learning.
Success in this program is dependent on five pillars: public support, infrastructure development, effective school leadership, teachers’ professionalism, and students’ commitment.
While technology is central, its role can never replace the necessity of “awesome teachers” who supervise, guide, and correct the use of AI and other tools.
There must be a substantial effort in pedagogical and ethical training to ensure teachers remain central to the teaching program, ensuring that students in rural areas are not left without adequate guidance and supervision.
