CLINTON COUNTY, Iowa — An April cybersecurity incident that impacted Clinton County systems did not compromise any data, officials said on Thursday.

The incident occurred back on April 13 and 14 when monitoring systems detected unusual network activity consistent with the early stages of an internet intrusion attempt. In response, the county temporarily took parts of its network offline, including internet connectivity, as a precaution.

County officials said external cybersecurity experts conducted an investigation and found that no data was impacted within the county systems. The investigation also found that the incident was detected and contained early.

“Clinton County has worked closely with cybersecurity experts to thoroughly assess our security measures as part of our ongoing commitment to maintaining the integrity, security, and reliability of our public systems,” officials said in a press release. “In light of this incident, the County has implemented additional safeguards and monitoring protocols that will remain in place to further strengthen our system security and help us prevent future incidents.”
