Pentagon reaches agreements with leading AI companies

The Pentagon has entered into agreements with seven AI companies including SpaceX, OpenAI, Google, NVIDIA, Reflection, Microsoft, and Amazon Web Services to deploy their advanced AI tools on the Defense Department’s classified networks.
Notably, the agreements do not include Anthropic due to prior disputes and labeling it as a supply-chain risk which barred its use in the Pentagon.
These agreements aim to diversify the AI companies involved in working across the military, providing more military personnel access to the selected companies’ products.
The Pentagon’s GenAI.mil platform has been accessed by over 1.3 million defense personnel in just five months of operation.
Google has reportedly signed a deal allowing its AI models to be used for classified military work.
Anthropic remains flagged as a supply-chain risk, though there are ongoing discussions about its advanced AI model Mythos and its potential as a separate national security concern.
President Donald Trump has indicated that the administration is taking interest in reversing Anthropic’s blacklisting from the Pentagon, marking a potential shift in policy.
