MIT and IBM Launch New Research Lab for AI, Quantum Computing

IBM and MIT launch the MIT-IBM Computing Research Lab to expand their collaboration into quantum computing, alongside artificial intelligence and algorithms.
The lab focuses on hybrid computing systems that blend classical computers, AI models, and quantum hardware, as well as smaller enterprise AI models and quantum algorithms for various scientific fields.
Since its predecessor lab’s inception in 2017, more than 210 research projects, 1,500 peer-reviewed papers, and the support of over 500 students and researchers have emerged from the collaborative effort at MIT-IBM Watson AI Lab.
The new lab aims to accelerate innovation in AI, fundamental algorithms, and quantum computing to address contemporary and futuristic challenges across various industries.
Lab research will also advance the mathematical and algorithmic foundations for next-generation computing, potentially impacting areas like materials science, chemistry, and biology.
Besides its research ambitions, the lab serves as an educational hub to train the next generation of computational scientists and innovators across MIT disciplines.
