Eight University Teams To Vie For Laude Institute’s $10 Million AI Moonshots

Eight university teams have been selected as finalists for the Laude Institute’s Moonshots research competition, focusing on using AI to solve complex global challenges.
Each finalist team will receive a $250,000 seed grant to develop their proposals, with the potential winner receiving a $10 million grant.
The finalists are working on diverse projects, including AI-based weather forecasting, enhanced AI communication, AI for mathematical reasoning, re-skilling for physical skills, embryonic development simulations, measuring AI’s impact on industries, health management systems, and civic deliberation platforms.
This competition received 125 proposals from over 600 researchers at 47 institutions.
The judging panel included prominent figures like Turing Award winners David Patterson and John Hennessy, and Google’s Jeff Dean.
In addition to the finalists, four runners-up and 13 honorable mentions will also receive funding, with $200,000 and $100,000 respectively.
Moonshots is facilitated by the Laude Institute, which received an initial investment of $100 million from Andy Konwinski.
