Singapore’s maritime sector to accelerate Artificial Intelligence (AI) adoption under new partnership

The Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) and the Singapore Shipping Association (SSA) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to accelerate the adoption of AI in Singapore’s maritime sector to enhance productivity and competitiveness.
The initiative aims to support maritime companies in integrating AI across ship agency, management, chartering, operations, and bunkering functions.
Companies will gain access to a knowledge base of AI use cases, connect with solution providers, and pilot AI applications tailored to their specific needs.
Organizations will benefit from the AI Singapore’s AI Readiness Index (AIRI) framework to assess their AI readiness and strategize accordingly.
To facilitate AI adoption, MPA and SSA will collaborate with higher education institutions and service providers to develop training programs aimed at equipping employees with necessary AI skills and strategic thinking.
SSA has initiated the first runs of the AI training program with 21 companies already participating and plans for a full rollout by later in 2026.
MPA and SSA will organize industry engagement events, including the Maritime AI Forum in the second half of 2026, to raise awareness and share real-world AI applications and practical use cases.
The MOU also involves exploring impactful AI innovation projects to further boost the maritime sector’s technological advancement.
