Samsung says goodbye to texting app, advises users to switch to Google

Samsung has announced that it is discontinuing its proprietary messaging application, Samsung Messages, and encouraging users to migrate to Google Messages.
The end of service for Samsung Messages will be effective from July, with detailed information available on Samsung’s U.S. support website.
To maintain a seamless messaging experience on Android, users are advised to switch to Google Messages by installing it from the Play Store and setting it as the default messaging app.
Upgrading to Google Messages will provide access to advanced features like AI tools from Google’s Gemini and higher quality photo sharing via RCS-enabled messages.
Users of older Android versions (Android 11 and earlier) will not be affected by this change, while those with the Galaxy S26 lineup and other newer models need to make the switch sooner.
After official discontinuation in July, no new downloads of Samsung Messages will be permitted.
Details about the global discontinuation policy for Samsung Messages beyond the U.S. are not yet confirmed.
