DVIDS – News – AI Bootcamp readies Air Commandos for next-gen advantage

Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC) has started hosting AI Bootcamps to train servicemembers on using artificial intelligence ethically and effectively in their daily tasks.
The bootcamp stems from AFSOC’s dedication to utilizing emerging technologies to maintain strategic superiority and aims to empower personnel to use AI tools to streamline processes and tasks.
The course includes identifying appropriate AI tasks, utilizing “Human in the Loop” strategies, and offering practical, hands-on training sessions to understand and apply generative AI systems.
AI is being trained to function as a brainstormer, translator, red teamer, and tutor to enhance a variety of tasks and support upskilling.
The training was started in September 2025 and was quickly developed after the release of the Secretary of War’s memorandum in December 2025, showcasing AFSOC’s proactive approach.
AFSOC’s initiative aims to create a mindset where servicemembers see AI as a powerful ally rather than a replacement, with higher headquarters and other commands showing interest in adopting this approach.
