Prof. Kenji Doya receives 9th Tateishi Special Prize

Professor Kenji Doya of the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) has been selected to receive the 9th Tateishi Special Prize from the Tateishi Science and Technology Foundation.
The Tateishi Prize, established in 2010, honors researchers in electronics and information engineering with significant societal contributions, particularly emphasizing harmony between humans and machines.
Doya’s recognition comes for his pioneering research in artificial intelligence and robotics, inspired by how living organisms learn through trial and error.
His contributions have notably advanced reinforcement learning theory, applied learning mechanisms to understand the brain, and nurtured researchers through educational programs at OIST.
Doya holds a PhD in Engineering from the University of Tokyo and has done significant research at multiple institutions, contributing extensively to neuroscience and AI.
He is currently working on developing a unified theory of brain perception and action, aiming to deepen the understanding of human motor skills and decision-making processes.
Doya has received multiple prestigious awards including the JSPS Prize, Tsukahara Memorial Award, and the Donald O. Hebb Award.
