UNC’s AI chief to take new role at Worcester Polytechnic

Jeffrey Bardzell, vice provost for artificial intelligence and chief AI officer at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has been appointed as the Peterson Family Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
He will continue in his current roles at UNC until late May.
Bardzell’s new position aligns with his long-standing passion for interdisciplinary scholarship and the integration of academic programs with societal needs.
Provost Magnus Egerstedt praised Bardzell’s leadership and commitment, highlighting his influence on shaping conversations regarding responsible AI leadership at UNC.
Bardzell previously served as dean of the UNC School of Information and Library Science and significantly advanced the university’s data science offerings.
He played a key role in advancing UNC’s AI initiatives, creating a framework called AI for Public Good and co-chairing the upcoming inaugural AI for Public Good Conference.
