Led by Nitish Kumar Sankurabhukta, this platform, known as “UAPB Aquaculture Computer Vision,” enables precision without the need for specialized hardware or subscription fees.
Accessible AI Platform: This AI platform requires only a smartphone and internet connection. Users upload a photo to get comprehensive biological and statistical assessments traditionally requiring lab equipment and labor. It’s built on an artificial intelligence model trained on thousands of Pacific white shrimp images.
Global Reach and Economic Impact: The system is accessible globally, aiding shrimp farmers in places like Southeast Asia and Latin America without advanced tools. It supports shrimp stocking, feeding, and analysis, leading to cost savings by reducing uncertainty and waste, and improving efficiency.
Expansion and Future Potential: The platform is set to expand to cover a variety of other aquaculture species including largemouth bass and channel catfish, with support from advanced computing systems.
