China’s Jiangsu touts AI industrial push as Xi urges province to lead

Government officials from Jiangsu, China’s second-largest provincial economy, highlighted plans to expand artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure and upgrade manufacturing, following President Xi Jinping’s call for the province to lead in developing technology-driven growth.
Jiangsu has over 1,500 AI companies and ranks second nationwide in computing capacity with 66 large AI models and 283 algorithms registered with regulators.
Jiangsu will deepen “AI plus” transport initiatives, developing around 50 pilot applications using AI to improve infrastructure management and logistics services.
Local manufacturing in Jiangsu’s Yangzhou is integrating AI, with 186 smart production lines built in sectors like automotive components and environmental equipment.
The province aims to build a local AI ecosystem and attract companies by introducing incentives including computing subsidies and AI talent programs.
President Xi urged Jiangsu to lead the country in developing “new quality productive forces” and called for embedding AI across China’s economy and society as highlighted in the 15th five-year plan.
China’s National People’s Congress, attended by around 3,000 delegates including provincial and regional officials, discussed and prioritized AI embedding in the economy.
