- The interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, Barbara Rodríguez, has created an Artificial Intelligence Steering Committee to oversee AI integration at The University of New Mexico.
- The AI Steering Committee is intended to ensure AI is used ethically and in support of the university’s mission.
- The committee’s responsibilities align with the UNM 2040 strategic goals: Advance New Mexico; Student Experience and Educational Innovation; Inclusive Excellence; Sustainability; and One University.
- The committee will focus on developing a strategic framework, establishing ethical guidelines, fostering collaboration, and coordinating AI efforts in teaching & learning, research & scholarship, and administrative applications.
- The committee will also recommend necessary organizational structures, resources, and governance arrangements for effective AI integration.
