Alabama Creates AI, Emerging Tech Oversight Board

Alabama has established the Technology Quality Assurance Board (TQAB) to oversee cybersecurity, AI, and emerging technologies in state government.
Gov. Key Ivey announced the formation of TQAB to ensure the responsible, secure, and effective deployment of emerging technologies.
The board was mandated by legislation passed in May 2025, which gave the state’s Office of Information Technology oversight of cybersecurity.
State agencies including the Alabama Office of Information Technology, the Alabama Department of Finance, and others will provide representatives to the TQAB to review new technology standards for innovation, cybersecurity, privacy, and operational excellence.
The purpose of TQAB is to make sure that any technological advancements protect citizen data and enhance government services.
Alabama’s efforts join a trend among states working on AI regulation and strategy, as evidenced by similar initiatives in Washington, D.C., and Missouri.
