Iambic could earn almost $2 billion in new Takeda deal

Iambic Therapeutics, a startup blending physics and AI for drug discovery, has secured a major collaboration with Japan’s Takeda Pharmaceutical.
Under the partnership, Takeda will use Iambic’s AI models to develop small-molecule drugs for oncology, inflammation, and gastrointestinal diseases; potential revenues could exceed $1.7 billion over time with additional royalties on sales.
Iambic’s “physics-informed” AI platform, NeuralPLexer, combines protein language models with a graph-based molecular encoder to enhance the predictability and accuracy of drug discovery.
CEO Tom Miller highlights that Iambic’s AI models are uniquely informed by physics, making them more efficient and accurate compared to competitors.
Iambic’s AI models consistently refine accuracy through continuous learning from its lab data, completing a molecule-to-validation cycle within ten days.
Miller, a former Caltech chemistry professor, cofounded Iambic in 2020 to bridge research into patient-ready medicines; the company has raised over $300 million and is backed by notable investors.
Takeda joins other partners including Lundbeck and Revolution Medicines in leveraging Iambic’s AI platforms for drug development, each partnership reflecting varied focuses from technology deployment to molecule co-development.
