CGI’s artificial intelligence boss knows his job title won’t exist for long

CGI’s UK head of AI, Russell Goodenough, believes his current role will become obsolete as AI matures, just as specific internet role titles are likely to become irrelevant.
Goodenough is currently leading AI initiatives to help all CGI staff leverage AI, with the entire CGI UK workforce having access to an enterprise version of the AI technology, ChatGPT.
CGI started integrating AI, particularly ChatGPT, on a small scale 18 months ago; now it’s seeing substantial productivity gains across various teams, including automated testing which improved efficiency five-fold.
The company has used a decentralized approach to AI adoption, focusing on change agents and teams to spread the benefits widely across the organization.
CGI has over 18,000 global employees using AI tools across different geographies, though the UK is currently leading initiatives with Open AI, with other regions working on partnerships with different AI platforms.
Goodenough acknowledges potential downsides of AI, stressing the importance of ethical AI deployment, especially in critical areas like health and justice, while criticizing AI that generates inappropriate content.
