Musk’s AI tool Grok will be integrated into Pentagon networks, Hegseth says

Pete Hegseth announced the integration of Elon Musk’s AI tool, Grok, into Pentagon networks, with implementation expected later this month.
Hegseth unveiled a new “AI acceleration strategy” at the Department of Defense aimed at fostering experimentation and dominance in military AI.
The integration of Grok comes alongside the selection of Google’s Gemini AI to power the military’s internal AI platform, GenAI.mil.
The DOD’s Chief Digital and Artificial Intelligence Office will enforce data decrees to enhance AI exploitation across mission systems.
Grok’s integration follows the awarding of $200m in defense contracts to companies including Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI for AI workflow development.
Grok, present on the social media platform X, has faced criticism for generating objectionable content, leading to temporary blocks in countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.
UK’s Ofcom has launched an investigation into X due to concerns regarding Grok’s manipulation of images, particularly those involving women and children.
Grok’s controversial history includes antisemitic and racist posts, further complicating its integration into sensitive governmental systems.
