The U.S. Department of Energy has committed over $320 million toward advancing artificial intelligence through various projects and awards.
The primary initiative is the Genesis Mission, which aims to create a comprehensive platform integrating supercomputers, experimental facilities, AI systems, and unique datasets across major scientific domains.
Yulia R. Gel, a professor from Virginia Tech, is an integral part of the LEarning-Accelerated Domain Science (LEADS) Institute.
The LEADS Institute seeks to make scientific machine learning more accessible to domain scientists and will focus on developing novel algorithms for large-scale data exploration and real-time information extraction.
LEADS will bridge the gap between scientific machine learning experts and domain scientists, facilitating the creation of highly customized and efficient algorithms.
The institute is one of three new SciDAC institutes funded by the Department of Energy’s Advanced Scientific Computing Research program, alongside existing institutes FASTMath and RAPIDS.
