The United States is set to host more than half of all upcoming global data center developments, according to an analysis by Data Center Map combined with insights from Tom Wilson, an expert at the Electric Power Research Institute. This dominance is primarily due to the extensive land available for the construction of large data centers, which are consistently larger in the U.S. compared to other countries. There is a concern that the rising energy demands of expanding data centers could strain the current U.S. power grid, which has experienced flat electricity demand for two decades. To address this, Wilson suggests that data centers should adopt more flexible power usage strategies by scheduling their heavy operations during off-peak times or incorporating on-site battery systems.
